Lake Highlands Junior Women’s League members are busy bees this month, preparing for their 12th annual Run the Highlands. On Saturday, April 30th, LH will be inundated with runners from across the metroplex, including more than 1,000 participants who will attend the fun family event.

The certified 5K race will begin with a Jazzercise warm up at 8:15 a.m. in front of Lake Highlands High School and a shorter Family Trail Walk is easy for strollers, bikes and tricycles on the Rec Center trail. The carnival lasts until 10:30 a.m. with games, giveaways, bounce houses, balloon artists, air brush tattoos, pony rides and live entertainment.

This year, the League’s 100 members are partnering with the Audelia Public Library, and proceeds will be used to create a defined “Early Childhood and Grade School Area” inside the library. 2016 Run the Highlands Coordinator Jessica Baker, a 2000 graduate of LHHS, says the project is called “Growing Minds in Lake Highlands” and will be used by many of the League’s members and their neighbors – some of whom graduated from LHHS and returned to the community to begin families of their own.

Registration information is available here (cost is about $30 per person) and you may choose to purchase a t-shirt in support of the cause even if you opt not to run.

If you do participate, Jessica encourages you to use #RuntheHighlands when you post pics on social media. You can see LHJWL’s photos here and mine here.
