A Lake Highlands man was found dead in his Sunset Terrace apartment on Forest Lane after a chaotic early morning scene, the Dallas Morning News reports.

Dallas police and federal marshals were attempted to execute a warrant arrest for assault and firearm charges around 6:40 a.m. Thursday when they heard a solo shot ring out from the suspect’s apartment. No officers were injured, and one of the suspect’s family members was able to flee the apartment.

To be safe, officers called in Dallas’ SWAT team and began evacuating nearby apartments in case more shots were fired. Two hours later, the suspect, who has not been named, was found dead of a gunshot wound.

Police told the DMN that they were assisting the marshals in serving a warrant on Robert James Covington, 32, of Omaha, Neb. He was allegedly wanted for asking a girl at a gas station for her number, which she declined. When her coworkers then confronted Covington, they say he pulled out a gun and began firing, critically wounding one clerk.
