MPE Serves at the Outdoor Learning Center

Students at Merriman Park Elementary learned a few lessons outside the classroom last weekend as they participated in “#mpeserves,” a Sunday of service. The program encouraged students, aged 5 to 13, to roll up their sleeves and participate in helping their neighbor and improving their neighborhood. Families, including younger and older siblings, were encouraged to join in.

Children collected canned goods for the Reverse Food Truck benefitting the Vickery Meadow food pantry. They worked in the school’s Outdoor Learning Center installing new planter boxes made possible by a grant from Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant. They baked goodies for teachers and staff at Thurgood Marshall Elementary, where most students qualify for free and reduced lunch and the school lacks a strong PTA presence. The project is in its second year.

Congratulations and thank you, MPE students!
