Do you want the good news first or the bad news?
Let’s start with the good news. For the Love of the Lake (FTLOTL), the non-profit that hosts Shoreline Spruce Up and other White Rock Lake-centric events every month, gathered at White Rock Lake over the weekend to celebrate 20 years of volunteerism by raising funds to build a playground at Flag Pole Hill.
During the “I Heart The Lake” festival on Saturday, FTLOTL also attempted to set the Guinness World Record by forming the world’s largest heart shape made from people — complete with dozens of red rain ponchos.
The bad news? Well, they didn’t set the world record. They needed 1000-plus people to pull it off, and they didn’t get that many neighbors. (Can you say brokenhearted?)
But hey, they still managed to wrangle up quite a crowd of red-poncho-wearing humans, so at least the pictures turned out pretty cool.

And in the end, isn’t it the thought that counts? Executive director Lis Akin thinks so.
“Everyone had so much fun creating the heart shape in red rain ponchos and giving the heart a beat by everyone jumping on one leg simultaneously,” she says.
