Lake Highlands Exchange Club members honored four outstanding Wildcats last week, recognizing their academic achievement and upstanding character. All four participate in the AVID program, Advancement Via Individual Determination, which involves recruiting students from groups who may be under represented in higher education and preparing them for success in high school, college and career.

Ronda Kedir and Chauncy Newell received Character Counts Awards.

Ronda emigrated to the U.S. from Ethiopia two years ago, and quickly became a good student. She plans to become a pharmacist after college.

Chauncy plays football for the Wildcats and enjoys his theatre classes at LHHS. After college, he hopes to pursue a career in acting.

Mercy Cer and Josue Corzo were named Youth of the Month.

Mercy emigrated from Burma at the age of six, and is now in the top 10% of her class. She is a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society and plans to become a psychologist.

Josue, originally from Guatemala, is a senior class officer. He plans to attend Baylor University and study medicine.

Congratulations, all!
