The nearby corner at Abrams and Northwest Highway – formerly home to Steakley Chevrolet – will soon compete with a major retail complex to be called High Point Center. The site, which stretches 13 acres almost to Skillman, was recently purchased by Houston-based developer Ainbinder Co.

According to a story in the Dallas Morning News, owner Michael Ainbinder has redeveloped former auto dealerships in Houston and calls this parcel “great real estate.” Though no leases have yet been signed, big box and junior anchor retailers are expected for the 160-170,000 square feet of total space.

Steakley Chevrolet, which opened in 1962 on the site, closed in early 2008. Since then it’s been an eyesore, hosting Dallas Furniture Mart for a while in the showroom and a variety of occasional vendors in the parking lot.

No date was given for the start of construction.
