Adam Meierhofer has been a high-achieving, widely-respected Richardson ISD school board member, and at his retirement reception Monday, surrounded by a crowd of grateful teachers and staff, current and former trustees gathered to tell him so. One could easily get the feeling, though, that many have feelings for Adam that go beyond admiration and esteem. As he leaves the RISD, Adam – the youngest serving trustee – is leaving behind Mother Hens.

“Adam is a very distinguished board member,” praised School Board President Kim Caston. “He is the only male board member who has served under three female board presidents, as well as a female superintendent – all of whom are old enough to be his mother, and all that that implies.”

“I want to personally thank Adam for his years of service,” added Dr. Kay Waggoner, Richardson ISD Superintendent. “Adam has attended so many RISD events, including graduations and convocations, and many of these have been at the expense of his own very special family celebrations. So Brandy, to your family: thank you for sharing Adam with us the last three years. He’s been a tremendous asset to us.”

“At graduation, we send kids off asking, ‘what are you going to be?’” continued Caston, “but the more important questions are: ‘will they be good sons, good fathers, men of integrity, people who have made their community a little better?’ For us, these are the definitions of servant leader.

“Adam, you have been a tremendous board member. You have been thoughtful and deliberate about the work that we’ve done, and you’ve valued all 38,000 kids as much as you do your own 3 wonderful children.  For that, you have an entire community that is very thankful.”

“Adam’s tenure on the board has been marked by leadership,” added Waggoner. “His commitment and dedication are without question. He has supported our kids and our community and our staff and our recommendations and our initiatives 150%. He has given it his all plus some.”

Karen Holburn, a particular mentor to Adam, said she looked forward to seeing him have time to enjoy the school activities of his own children.

“When Luke Davis retired from the school board, it was the community that looked to Adam and said, ‘Please stand up. You know our neighborhood. You care passionately about the kids. Would you please stand up?’”

“Adam’s instincts are real,” continued Holburn, “he has a good gut and he is a very smart individual. He has been willing to take advice, when needed, and he’s worked very hard to become the wonderful trustee that he is.”
