Looks like it’s out with Genaro’s and in with Rex’s Fresh Seafood and Market.

As we reported in October, Genaro’s Restautante closed after a brief run in Hillside Village. After less than a year of business at the northeast corner of Mockingbird and Abrams, the Mexican food restaurant had lockout notices posted on the door regarding unpaid rent and other defaults.

Now Dallas-based Rex’s Fresh Seafood is set to give the space a new life, according to founder and owner Rex Bellomy, who says he signed a lease on Sunday.

No major construction needs to be done to the space, Bellomy says, just some cosmetic changes.

“That location is kind of my dream location because it has a full bar,” he explains. “It’ll seat probably 100 people. It’s got a beautiful patio.”

Bellomy plans to fully utilize the bar space, unlike the original location on Lovers Lane which only serves beer and wine. If all goes as planned, he hopes to open sometime in May. Like the location on Lovers, there will be a small market.

Rex’s is also opening a spot in the newly renovated Shed 2 at the Dallas Farmers Market, making the location at Abrams and Mockingbird the third Rex’s location.
