Sophomore Daniel Kidd took 1st, and 2nd place honors were earned by seniors Seth Villasana, Reid Curnutt, Anthony Maldonado and junior Tw’quan Clayton. Seniors Sam Ketchmark, Juan Castro and Kendrell Willis were third.

The JV team was also successful, with 18 wrestlers landing in the top 3 in their weight classes. Junior Jack Smitham, sophomores Carlos Zumwalt, Preston Gunter and Ryan Flores, and freshmen Andrew Nixon, Ian Stroud, Bawi Ceu, Max Hayter and Fnu Thomas were 1st. Juniors Kevin Tran and Brandon Kaylor, sophomores Jason Graham, John Allen and Omar Cardenas, and freshman Ceu Lian took 2nd. Freshmen Brad Dabrowski and Avery Mulally were 3rd.

The team, under the leadership of legendary coach Pete Grieder, is on track to make another trip to state. First, though, they’ll have to face district rival Highland Park in the small gym at LHHS this Friday, Dec. 12. That match begins at 6:30 p.m., and the team would love to see you in the stands. Saturday morning, the team will be looking to repeat as Richardson ISD Champs, facing Berkner, Richardson and Pearce in the Richardson Quad. Action begins at 9 a.m. in the big gym. Go Cats!
