Six-year-old White Rock-area neighbor Josie Bush recently decided to host a lemonade stand to raise money for the nonprofit Paws in the City, which aims to end the overpopulation, abuse, neglect dogs and cats in the Dallas area.
Josie, who goes to Hexter Elementary, and Cienna Shack, who goes to Dealey Montessori, set up the arrangements. Then several other kids from the block came to help out once they saw what the girls were planning. The kiddos rallied together, knocked on doors, directed traffic and took turns manning the table, says Josie’s mom Layla Bush.
The girls brought in more than expected — $111 in two hours.
When Layla’s co-workers heard about the fundraising effort, they donated another $20. Then Layla’s company, Heidrick & Struggles, offered to match the original amount, bringing the grand total to $242.
“We are incredibly proud of our kiddos, and so happy they decided to make Paws in the City the recipient of the donations,” Layla says.
Josie and Cienna decided to donate today during North Texas Giving Day, hosted by the Communities Foundation of Texas.
