Exchange Club parade three girlssThis year’s Lake Highlands Exchange Club Fourth of July Parade and Carnival falls on a Friday, a great day to catch up with neighbors, see old friends and welcome the young families moving into LH.

The Grand Marshall will be Jerry Allen, LH’s rep on the Dallas City Council. Allen is in his 8th and final year on the council, since members are limited to two terms.

The decades-old tradition will feature kids on bikes, babies in wagons, and dogs dressed in red, white and blue. You’ll see the Wranglers dance, cheerleaders chant, politicians wave and Uncle Sam walk on stilts.

The half-mile route, along Church Road from North Highlands Bible Church to the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center, draws neighborhood families who tend to walk from their homes carrying folding chairs.

The post-parade carnival is free and features music, face painting, a bounce house and a petting zoo. The Exchange Club will serve popcorn and soft drinks.

At 8 a.m. floats will begin arriving and lining up, and judging is at 8:30 in the Northlake Elementary parking lot. At 9 a.m. the parade begins. The carnival continues until 11:30.
