Malik Little

Shhhh. Don’t tell anyone, but radio rowdy Corby Davidson has a heart the size of the Dallas Death Star.
Corby, known to fans of Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket as The Cobra, and cohort, Mike Rhyner, will be at Lake Highlands High School Tuesday, March 18 from 3-7 p.m. broadcasting their Hardline show live. The occasion: Malik Madness.
Malik Little is a Merriman Park Elementary fifth grader battling lymphoma, and the kid loves basketball. Soon after his recent diagnosis, the LHHS basketball team invited Malik to join them on the bench during their last home game. Malik loved it, but players and fans in attendance say they may have benefited most from seeing the smile on his face.
This time, fifth graders in Girl Scout Troop #1223 have organized a basketball game between Malik’s classmates, and the entire community is getting involved.

In addition to the basketball game, to be held at LHHS’s big gym at 6:30 p.m., Malik Madness will include games, a raffle for Dallas Mavericks game tickets and a signed Mavericks basketball. Showing up in addition to Rhyner and Corby, who’ll broadcast live during the game, the Dallas Mavericks mascot will compete with the LHHS Wildcat and the MPE Panther, and the LHHS drumline and cheerleading squad will get the crowd revved up.

“When I was told about Malik and his situation,” said Corby, “it was really a no-brainer for me and The Ticket to get involved and to try and do whatever we could to help. I know the Lake Highlands community has rallied around him and his family, and we will do everything in our power to get the word out and make Malik Madness a great event and a big success.”

Corby, often seen at Moss Park and the Lake Highlands YMCA supporting his own two sons and their athletic teams, lives in Lake Highlands with his wife, Julie, and their menagerie of animals. If you count yourself as a P1 (the name for The Ticket’s frequent listeners), you’ve heard plenty about their busy household. If you don’t know (or care) much about sports, don’t change that dial too fast. Corby is as comfortable (and opinionated) chatting with the guys about music, movies and pop culture as he is about any athletic contest.
