It’s as if developers have finally figured out what we’ve known all along – Northeast Dallas is a network of vibrant communities that house residents with money to spend.

And putting a spotlight on that fact this month is the Northeast Dallas Chamber of Commerce, which is sponsoring an economic summit examining a number of development and redevelopment products underway or planned in our neighborhoods.

The summit, scheduled Thursday, Nov. 17, from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m., features Lucy Billingsley as its luncheon speaker. Billingsley is managing director of the Billingsley Company and developer of the 24-story, $125-million One Arts Plaza in downtown Dallas. When completed, the project will house 7-Eleven’s corporate headquarters.

Also speaking at the summit are Dallas City Council members Bill Blaydes and Gary Griffith, and developers Jimmy Christon, Tom Motlow, Phil Brosseau and Judd Panky.

Among the projects to be highlighted are the Palomar at Mockingbird and North Central Expressway, the proposed Wal-Mart Super Center at Forest and Abrams, Kingsley Square at Walnut Hill and Skillman, and the Casa Linda Shopping Center.

Chamber chairman Michael Miles says now is the logical time to hold such an event.

“Anyone driving through our communities knows that many exciting projects are underway, but the summit will focus on several key developments that are beginning to shape the re-development of our area.

“The city of Dallas is in the midst of developing the first long-range comprehensive plan in many years. The chamber wants to take a leadership role in making certain that good communication is taking place on all development issues – both public and private – in the Lakewood, Lake Highlands, Casa Linda and Casa View communities.”

The summit, held at Knights of Columbus Hall, 10110 Shoreview in Lake Highlands, is open to the public. Individual tickets are $60. Sponsorships are available and include tickets to the event and, in some cases, a complimentary chamber membership.
