Game of Thrones brew at Goodfriend, and yes the glasses come with: Facebook

Winter is coming. Eh, maybe not anytime soon, but eventually. Goodfriend, the beer garden and burger bar at Peavy-Garland Road, has available (as of last Friday) 120 bottles of Take the Black Stout by Brewery Ommegang — the second ale in its Game of Thrones collectors series. Note the brewers, “Inspired by the brotherhood of the Night’s Watch, Take the Black Stout was made to be deep, dark and complex like those who have sworn the oath to defend Westeros against threats from the north.”  The label depicts the tree at which Jon Snow pledged his eternal loyalty to The Watch.

Rosemary and lettuce in the Nazca garden

Rosemary and lettuce in the Nazca garden

Garden fresh — in our September magazine, we profiled Nazca Kitchen, located at Walnut-Central, near Crossroads Diner. Owner Craig Collins, who also owns nearby Red, Hot and Blue told us about his quest for the freshest fish and produce. In fact, he pointed out as the lettuce fish tacos arrived at the table, the lettuce is grown right on site. Sure enough, there is the most adorable garden along the entry wall featuring rows of lettuce, rosemary, sage and anything else one dares to grow in a Texas summer. Then, Collins headed out to catch his plane to Alaska, where he said he planned to meet with a potential seafood distributor.
