Since it opened in August 2004, Bonnie Ruth’s Café and Catering has quickly developed a very loyal following in the neighborhood, and it’s pretty easy to see why. Everything at the small café in Casa Linda Plaza is homemade – from the artisan breads to the pizza crust to the decadent desserts. Chef Bonnie Ruth lanace created her restaurants hoping to recreate some of the success she had with Fairmount Bakery in Uptown several years ago. “The recipes are all original, all from Bonnie’s head,” says Liz lanace, Bonnie’s mother-in-law, who runs the catering part of the business. Menu items include favorites such as Chicken Navona, a grilled chicken breast on rosemary tomato ciabatta with mozzarella, balsamic vinegar-marinated tomatoes, arugula and garlic aioli. And we’re told the caramel cinnamon rolls, only available on Saturday mornings, shouldn’t be missed. Because of its proximity to the Arboretum and White Rock Lake, customers will often stop by Bonnie Ruth’s for a boxed meal to take with them for an afternoon picnic. But lanace points out that they are expanding their dinner menu and hope to have wine available soon so that their patrons can enjoy evenings at the restaurant as well.
