2013BallPoster picsThe Richardson Symphony League Debutantes and Honor Guards are hosting a Summer Social, and they’re inviting public, private or home-schooled high school students in Richardson and surrounding areas will attend to learn more about the organizations.

Debs and Honor Guards represent the Richardson Symphony Orchestra and the League, serving as greeters at symphony concerts and other performances. But they do much more than that.

Debs and Honor Guards donate thousands of service hours every year supporting area food banks, animal shelters and other charities and events. They run the Symphony House at the City of Richardson’s Santa’s Village each December and work as pages at the annual RSO Lennox International Young Artists’ Competition each January.

The highlight of their year is their annual ball, where seniors are “presented” with the traditional low, full-court bow (jokingly called the “Debutante Dip” by girls who practice for hours in their white ball gowns and crystal tiaras). As a former Deb mom, I can attest to the lessons of culture, leadership, service and social growth after four years of service. (And the service hour credits and resume-building come in handy at college and scholarship application time.)

The Summer Social will be held Sunday, June 30 from 2-4 p.m. at Canyon Creek Country Club.  If you have questions, call Deb Advisor Ann Dennis, 214-693-6847, or Serena Cole, Honor Guard Coordinator, 214-566-1595.
