Developers Winston Capital, which aims to build a six-stories high, 350 unit (or so) residential complex at Lawther and Northwest, has applied for a fill permit to remove and build on the 100-year floodplain designation along White Rock Creek.
Obtaining such a permit is a standard requirement for anyone constructing property adjacent to a river, creek, lake, stream or other body of water subject to flooding during significant rain, and it is contingent on meeting fundamental floodplain building requirements and assurance that the proposed construction won’t adversely impact the floodplain up- or downstream of the development.
If this is confusing and you want to learn more, or if you know more about this than I do and have pertinent questions for the city or the developer, there will be a meeting Tuesday July 2 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., open to residents in all neighborhoods near the proposed development, or anyone who wishes to attend.
That’s at the Ridgewood/Belcher Recreation Center, small room, 6818 Fisher. Post-meeting, the item will be on the Aug. 14 City Council agenda for public hearing and approval.
