Bikini’s Sports recently trademarked the term “Breastaurant”. Photo from Facebook.com

In the 20-plus years Advocate has been in print and 10 or so online, I believe we have published the word “breastaurant” once (before now, that is).

Rick Wamre, Advocate founder, used it in writing about our area’s latest Twin Peaks at Mockingbird Station.

That day we introduced the word “breastaurant” to our publication happened to be the same day that Cub Scout Pack 862 visited and toured the Advocate office.

Our staff showed them around, flaunted some magazines and the web site … yeah, you guessed it. The top story when I opened the daily news blog page for the boys, parents and den leaders was, “Twin Peaks ‘breastaurant’ coming to Mockingbird Station” accompanied by an in-your-face image of two seriously skimpily clothed women clutching frothy beer-flooded mugs.

I razzed Wamre the next day—the boy scouts probably think Advocate is shelved alongside Maxim, I told him. Really, there’s a good chance the one memorable thing about the visit was that risqué image.

But now, unless we are writing about Bikini’s Sports Grill (the closest on is at Campbell and Central) we never again will disturb readers’ impressionable minds with the word “breastaurant”. Nope, Bikini’s founder Doug Guller, the same guy who bought a Texas town and named it Bikini’s, recently trademarked the word. So even the original b-taurant Hooters, neither Twin Peaks nor even Mugs N’ Jugs can use the word without risking a copyright infringement suit.
