After last year’s roaring success, I can’t decide what I’m most looking forward most to at tomorrow’s Oktoberfest – tasting the fall flavors of cold beer, sampling what the various food vendors have brought, hearing the traditional polka music or seeing the live performances by the various LHHS student groups. Nah, I’ve got it, it’s catching up with old friends. After all, everyone in Lake Highlands will be attending the event, sponsored by the Exchange Club at Lake Highlands Town Center.
The 2nd Annual Oktoberfest will be held Saturday from 11am to 10pm at the corner of Skillman and Walnut Hill, and food vendors will include Kuby’s, The Grape, Urban Crust and many others. Franconia Brewing Company will be serving cold beer and wine in the Biergarten, where HD TVs will have football playing on big screens. Great Polka bands and dance groups will entertain the crowds (with performances by the LHHS Wranglers, cheerleaders and Highlandettes mixed in), and at noon, Mayor Rawlings and LH’s Councilman Jerry Allen will conduct the Ceremonial Tapping of the Keg.
Children will enjoy the KidsZone with its bounce houses, climbing wall, petting zoo and KidsStage, where performers will keep them entertained all afternoon.
General admission is free, but parking is $5, the KidsZone pass is $5, and the Biergarten pass is $10. Proceeds benefit the wonderful programs of the LH Exchange Club, including Family Compass, formerly the Child Abuse Prevention Center.
