Who says costume parties are just for kids?

The Wildcat Club is trying something new to raise money. Instead of the online auction, used in previous years to sell items donated by local merchants and generous parents, board members for the LHHS athletic booster club thought outside the box this year. They’re encouraging supporters of the organization to throw parties for neighbors and friends – folks who’ll gladly make a donation for the chance to attend. The Wildcat Club collects a stack of contribution checks, and Facebook lights up with photos from LH parents enjoying an evening with friends. Win-win.

I had a chance to experience this new phenomenon over the weekend as former Wildcat Club Presidents Robin & Kelly Crawford and Deah & Byron McCoy teamed up to host a Halloween costume bash. The donation bucket was posted at the door, but entry wasn’t for the squeamish. (Robin has a well-known Halloween fetish, so her house was decked out, with spooky surprises and creative flourishes around every corner.)

The theme was old TV shows, so Kelly and Robin became Aunt Bea and Andy Griffith and Deah and Byron were Jed Clampitt and Ellie Mae. Winners of the prize for Best Costume were current Wildcat Club Presidents Sylvia Bodell, dressed as a M*A*S*H nurse, and husband Scott, dressed as Klinger. (That’s him in the lime green dress in the center of the photo. Yes, I am serious.)

If you formerly contributed to the auction, or if the idea of hosting a party to support the athletes of LHHS, LHFC, LHJH and FMJH sounds like your kind of fundraising, email anyone on the Wildcat Club board here to say you’re ready to get involved. You can create your own invitation list and theme and, frankly, the expense of the party is yours. The pleasure of presenting the checks to the Wildcat Club and watching the kids enjoy the benefits? Also yours.
