The Wildcat marching band has been invited to perform in Hawaii this year, and they’ve designed a unique method of paying for it. They’ll host their 1st annual March-a-Thon August 18-19th in hopes that all 180 members of the band can travel to the 2012 St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Honolulu. The two-day March-a-Thon will consist of an evening marching rehearsal, indoor music rehearsal, master instrument classes from professional musicians and a morning community performance for donors and supporters.

Band members and their parent booster club say they are opting out of selling you one more item you’ll never use. Instead you can pledge to give an amount per hour the kids work or per repetition of practice. Of course, you can just write a check for a flat amount. In addition to paying for travel expenses for the trip, proceeds will help with the costs of their marching show, Sugar and Spice, which they’ll share with LH at Wildcat football games. They hope to raise a total of $40,000.

Whether or not you participate financially, the band hopes you’ll support them in spirit by cheering them on at halftime of a home game, attending a Saturday marching contest and/or coming to one of their concerts at LHHS. Say Band Parents Tod and Karen Von Kalow, “No child is ever raised alone. You can be a contributing factor in each of these wonderful individuals.” Visit the band’s website here or email Tod here for details about donating.
