Lake Highlands Republican Women will hold its general meeting at 10 a.m. on April 20 at 10205 Audelia. The guest speaker will be Shirley Michaels, who will review “Going Rogue” by Sarah Palin. Education

The Lake Highlands High School debate team took three of the four top spots during the National Qualifying Tournament. The team has made a comeback since Hunter Wood began coaching two years ago. Jared Barton and Mark Hamilton placed first, Roman Milan and Shola Ogunrayi placed second, and Sasha Butt and Jon White came in third.

The Lake Highlands High School wrestling team qualified for the state tournament, sending five wrestlers to the state meet. The wrestlers and their weight classes are: Thayer Atkins (112, freshman), DD Fields (125, senior), Nathan Schulman (135, junior alternate), Biak Thang (145, junior alternate) and Ryan Branch (285, junior alternate).

People

Taylor Mokate, a Lake Highlands native who attends The University of Oklahoma, recently earned a spot on the USA Rugby National Team, The Eagles. He played his first game with the team at the 2011 USA Sevens Rugby Tournament last February in Las Vegas. The 6’4”, 235-pound athlete was one of only 15 players in the nation to be invited to the tournament this year.
