It a good time of year for running events. Here’s a low-key, family friendly, short race that benefits a worthwhile cause, the Genesis Women’s Shelter, that you can sign up for today.

Danny Hardeman, a member of the White Rock Running Co-op, will direct the Make the Break from Domestic Violence 5k and 1-mile fun run to support the Genesis Women’s Shelter at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday April 9 at Reverchon Park in the Turtle Creek area. Registration is now $25 online until April 7 at genesisshelter.org, or $30 the morning of the race beginning at 7 a.m.

From the director: “The course is great: down Turtle Creek, up Blackburn to Uptown, and then back down the Katy Trail for a downhill finish. ALL and I mean ALL proceeds go directly to Genesis,” Hardeman says.

“We’ve got great medals for all age groups 1st-3rd, great shirts, tons of great food in the park afterwards, and tons of kids activities.”

The Genesis Women’s Shelter’s offers programs and services to help battered women and children in the Dallas area.
