Play ball! SVAA seeks umpires for youth baseball

If you have a love of baseball and a willingness to give back to kids in the community, or if you’d like to see your teenager get up off the couch, put away the video games and find out what it’s like to earn a paycheck the SVAA is seeking folks with enough baseball knowledge to serve as umpires.

The Spring Valley Athletic Association (SVAA) is hiring machine-pitch umpires for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade boys baseball and 2nd and 3rd grade girls softball, and they’ll offer a training session March 26th beginning at 9:30 am at Spring Valley Elementary, 13535 Spring Grove. Participants must be at least 14 years old.

Once training is completed, umps will work at Aiken Elementary and Stults Road in Lake Highlands or two schools in nearby Richardson. The SVAA is flexible about scheduling, and games are played all day Saturdays, Sunday afternoons and for a couple of hours most nights of the week beginning in mid May. The season opens April 9th and continues through June.

Details, including background check, pay scale and uniform, are available by calling Vicky Taylor, 214-616-9875. According to Vicki, “We at SVAA have the philosophy that no child should be denied a good sporting experience through recreational baseball.”
