Back in the days looong before Mr. Gatti’s became Gatti’s Pizza, it was the eatery of choice for my girls’ soccer team. But at our age we didn’t have very discriminating taste, and our parents, I suspect, made the choice based purely on affordability. Since then, I hadn’t even thought about Gatti’s until Gatti Town opened in Preston Hollow (I asked, “as in Mr. Gatti’s?” and was told, “yes, that Gatti’s”).

Soon after, I noticed that there was a Gatti’s on Skillman, near my North Lake Highlands neighborhood, when they spruced up their signage. It appeared that not only was this franchise still around after all these years, but it also appeared to be re-branding itself. Since it was on my radar, I decided to try it out during a recent football Sunday at my house. The menu has certainly changed since the soccer days (back then I remember only hamburger-meat thin crust pizza that tasted like the kind you make in the microwave).

This decade, I ordered a couple of the specialty pizzas including BBQ Chicken and a Gatti’s Deluxe with smoked provolone, pepperoni, mild sausage, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, black olives and jalepenos. The price was still relatively low (we got two specialty and one pepperoni for around $30), the pizza is pretty good (it’s no Brothers, but good), they offer an admirable variety of options, and the delivery took under 20 minutes during the Cowboys game, which is impressive. They also seem to be paying attention to quality ingredients and nutrition. In fact, nutritional values for every menu item can be seen on their web site.
