The Lake Highlands Exchange Club has a Thanksgiving project in the works, and they’re inviting you to help. They plan to show some LH love to the military by sending boxes of personal-use items to 50 soldiers overseas – soldiers who reside in or grew up in Lake Highlands, Texas.

Contributions may be delivered to Eat the World, located behind Starbuck’s on Abrams at Royal, My Office, the packing and shipping store near Highlands Café, or The Store at Lake Highlands, in Northlake Shopping Center at Ferndale and Northwest Highway. You can also make a donation via the Exchange Club website (postage on each box will cost $12 – $600 for all 50 boxes) or email coordinator Greg Duval if you have a question or want to make other arrangements. The Exchange Club website also gives ideas about which personal items are best to send – things like powdered apple cider mix, moleskin for boot blisters, fleece blankets for cold desert nights, and Nerf footballs for down time.

Participants are welcome to include notes of encouragement, thank you cards, and/or the artwork and sentiments of children from the neighborhood. Troops who’ve received these in the past say these expressions of support are priceless.

And if you are in town Saturday, November 28, the Exchange Club invites you to bring the fam for Boxing Day at their Knights of Columbus meeting hall. From 9 – 10:30 am, they’ll assemble the donations and box them up for shipping. Food and drinks will be provided, and Santa will make an appearance.
