Not all neighborhood parents can brag that they watched four children cross the stage to accept a Lake Highlands High School diploma.
John and Karen Conway can, however. Their son, Jim Conway, was the first to graduate in ’74, and now lives in Houston working as IHS, Inc.’s U.S. sales director for service and midstream petroleum companies. John E. Conway graduated in ’75, and after medical school became an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. For 12 years, he was the Texas Rangers’ chief physician.
Jeff Conway was a ’78 graduate, and now lives in a suburb of Portland, Ore., working as a carpenter in a business remodeling company that he owns and operates. Their youngest and only daughter, Julianne Conway, graduated in ’83, and lives closest to her parents in Richardson. After working as an accounting supervisor for Fina Oil, the U.S. company of Belgium-based Petrofina, she is now a senior financial analyst for HPEDS.
Between their four children, John and Karen Conway have six grandchildren and another on the way.
Neighbors Sally and Fred Fifer can’t match the Conways in numbers, but they came close: All three of their boys are Lake Highlands graduates. One son might have a more recognizable name to many neighbors, even if they weren’t in his ’82 graduating class.
King Fifer had been practicing law in Texas for about 13 years, mainly representing design professionals such as architects, engineers and others involved in construction litigation, when he decided to run for a county judge seat. The Democratic candidate won his election on Nov. 7, 2006 and was sworn in as judge for Dallas County Court at Law No. 2 on Jan. 1, 2007.
