The Store in Lake Highlands is expanding to almost twice its size. Owner Cheryl Calvin said she hopes to have everything in the new space situated by the time school starts. In addition to its current offerings of women’s clothing, accessories and gift ideas, Calvin says shoppers also can look forward to a new collegiate, sorority and Lake Highlands section once the expansion is complete.

According to Charles Williams of commercial real estate broker John Bowles Company, two different dentists are looking to take over space on the second floor of the Park Bank Center at Skillman and Royal. In more exciting news, a burger joint is looking to take over the old Rigatoni space, and a frozen yogurt operator is “very serious” about moving into the old TCBY space. Neither restaurant has signed an official lease yet.

What’s a Zato? It’s the new Thai cuisine and sushi restaurant that appears close to completion in the Plaza Bank Center on Skillman.

The Stone Elephant Bar and Grill at Abrams and Skillman should open on or before Sept. 1, according to leasing representative Marcia Minton. The restaurant will offer full-service dining and serve American cuisine, she says.

Ever thought about rock climbing? Check out Dallas Rocks, a boulder and rock-climbing center at Forest and Greenville (dallasclimbing.com). Classes are available for different skill levels. You can purchase memberships or day passes (ask about their weekly specials for some discounted rates).

Perfect Sentiment is owned and operated by Lake Highlands mom-preneur Erin McLaughlin. She designs custom photo cards, gift tags, announcements and invitations (perfectsentiment.com). Get something created for an upcoming party or get the kiddos some custom stationery so they can send out those thank you notes — seriously, folks, it doesn’t need to be a lost art.

Shop Lake Highlands is a marketing effort encouraging residents and visitors to shop neighborhood businesses. The Lake Highlands Area Improvement Association is spearheading the initiative. Shop Lake Highlands decals are available at T.Hee Greetings, The Store and Resell it.

Speaking of T.Hee, according to co-owner David Farris, T.Hee Greetings will be relocating its wholesale side to a larger space to make room for a new space, “The Inviting Room at T.Hee Greetings & Gifts”. The room will be an 800-square-foot addition to the store’s current retail space at Walnut Hill and Audelia, and will open in August. Farris says T.Hee plans to expand its line of merchandise to include more invitations and gear for special events, including weddings and baby showers.

Hello again, Eat the World. Previously located on Walnut Hill near Audelia, the restaurant has reopened behind Starbucks at Abrams and Royal. According to owner Toby O’Brien, the king ranch chicken casserole is the most popular dish, followed by handmade hot tamales. In its new location, Eat the World is open for breakfast on weekend mornings, serving fresh beignets.

Did you know? Lake Highlands Automotive, located at 10702 Audelia, is owned by Lake Highlands High School graduate Reg Baker, ’69. Paul Landon, ’69, is Landon’s longtime friend and service manager. Baker has been in his current location for the past six years but has been involved in the automotive industry in the Lake Highlands area for more than 40 years — all the way back to his high school days, if you do the math.
