The White Rock North School has purchased the vacant lot adjoining their property on White Rock Trail, effectively ending DART’s plans to use the strip of land for public access to its new LH Town Center station. Dallas Parks and Recreation had also hoped to use the land for access to the new hiking and biking trails connected to the Center.

The Lake Highlands North Homeowners’s Association is claiming victory after months of wrangling with DART and the city to keep the public from accessing the center from the east. Homeowners on the ABC streets (Angleridge, Brentgate, Covemeadow, etc.) feared that commuters and outdoor enthusiasts from east Dallas, Garland, and Mesquite would drive into their neighborhoods and deposit their cars for the day in front of their homes while the used the trails or took DART to work. They were also concerned about new crime by ne’er-do-wells who jump on DART, exit at the town center, and help themselves to cars and homes in the neighborhood.

Mary Adams, owner of the White Rock North School, told the LHNHOA board last night that she will seek rezoning to build additional parking and a children’s playground, taking her school all the way over to the dentist’s office next door.

At the last meeting on the subject, DART revealed possible alternate scenarios to access the center from Walnut Hill. We’ll keep you advised when DART and the parks department announce their next move.
