Members of the Lake Highlands United Methodist Church youth group will leave this weekend for a mission trip to Matamoras Mexico, equipped with enough new soccer balls to attract the neighborhood children and overcome the language barrier. Soccer balls are being donated by the LHHS men’s soccer team.

“Our main goal is to meet children and build relationships with them,” said LHUMC youth minister Stephanie Moser. “We’ll be inviting them to attend our sports camp and Vacation Bible School throughout the week.”

“Soccer is popular all over the world,” said Wildcat soccer player Luke Stringer. “When we heard they needed soccer balls, we really wanted to help.” The youth going to Mexico will be working in a small community called Martha Rita on a building project. They’ll also visit a local orphanage to share soccer balls and high fives with the kids.

If you are interested in donating new or gently used soccer balls for the trip, you can deliver them to the church, 9015 Plano Road, anytime today. Of course, monetary donations will also be accepted, payable to LHUMC – Mission Trip.
