Poor Walter Kelly. He’s the new principal at Lake Highlands High School. He was hired to follow beloved longtime principal Dr. Bob Iden, though some thought without Dr. Bob we should just close the school. He’s grappled with wacky Bell Boy antics, keeping the Will Smith and Tony Romo visit a secret, and subzero temperatures when he took the Wranglers to Washington for the inauguration. Now he’s trying to field a barrage of inquiries about swine flu, all while important TAKS tests are being administered and his toddler’s teacher called to say his kid has pink eye.

So here’s my effort help him get the word out. The LHHS nurse, Sharon Simpson, and all the teachers are keeping a close eye out for students with symptoms. They have an automated call system to alert parents IF they have any concerns, the RISD is keeping their website updated, and the LH “mommy network” has a sophisticated email chain to get the word out if anything happens at the school, good or bad. At this point, LH students have only been affected by a postponement of UIL activities, such as the Lady Wildcat softball playoffs, Brad Mason’s regional golf tournament, Austin Roth and the rest of the track team’s regionals, and One Act Play. If anything changes, he promises to get the word out. Oh and, it’s a good thing we didn’t shutter the school. According to the kids, Mr. Kelly rocks.
