On Saturday, April 25, Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) will host a Walk Like MADD 5K Family Fun Walk in Uptown Dallas. More than 3,500 participants are expected, including LH’s own Don and Patsy Lee. They began serving as volunteers for MADD shortly after their 20 year old daughter, Melinda, was killed by a drunk driver in 1994. Melinda was a graduate of Lake Highlands High and a student at Texas Tech, and her loss was devastating to the entire community.
In addition to participating in events like this, Don and Patsy speak to student groups, corporations, and civic organizations about the perils of drinking and driving. They also raise money for the Melinda Ann Lee Memorial Scholarship, given through the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands to an LH senior who pledges to abstain from underage drinking and driving under the influence. Their message is powerful because they use photos and stories of Melinda to bring home the reality of the consequences of impaired driving.

The walk begins at 8:30 am at the corner of Pearl Street and Woodall Rogers.
