Baskin-Robbins will offer bargain ice cream scoops Wednesday as part of their 31 Cent Scoop Night fundraiser for the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC). On April 29 from 5-10 pm, participating Baskin-Robbins stores, including my hangout on Greenville Avenue in Old Town, will honor local firemen and invite them to come into the store and interact with the community. This is the third annual event, and in previous years firefighters have parked fire trucks outside the store for children to enjoy, conducted their “boot drives” to raise funds for their station house, scooped ice cream for customers, and distributed fire prevention information.

In conjunction with the event, Baskin-Robbins will make a $100,000 donation to the NVFC’s National Junior Firefighter Program. With many volunteer fire departments struggling to recruit and maintain members, this program reaches out to youth, offering information and scholarships to encourage junior firefighter training. Young people interested in pursuing these scholarships can download applications, due May 15, here.
