The Lake Highlands football team capped its outstanding year with many honors on the All-District 9-5A team. Our own Ricky Zorn, junior quarterback, was named Most Valuable Player – the district’s highest honor.

Coach Scott Smith was named Coach of the Year, and Defensive Newcomer of the Year was sophomore Roderick Mackey. Co-Defensive Player of the Year was Austin Jones, who shared the honor with Corey Nelson of Skyline. Selfishly, I long for the return of Jones and Zorn to the soccer field. They played alongside my two sons on the Zebras in the pee wee league at Moss Park, coached by my husband, Toby. Jones and Zorn were stellar athletes even as kindergartners, and they merely had to decide in which sport to excel. (Toby is pretty sure he should be named Coach of the Year. He figures it was his early instruction which brought the two to these great heights. With these two boys, we were a scoring machine.)
