The newly remodeled courtyard at Lake Highlands High School will be the site of a dedication ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a 7-foot bronze wildcat sculpture installed in honor of former principal Dr. Bob Iden. Kansas sculptor Dick Bergen will participate in the dedication and speak to students in their art classes.

Plans for refurbishing the courtyard began in 2004, when Dr. Iden told the PTA he hoped to improve the image of the outdoor space due to its high visibility near the school’s entrance. Approximately $150,000 has been raised for the project, with teachers and students already enjoying the quiet setting and stair-stepped seating for classes held outdoors on pretty days. Donations to finish the courtyard are still be accepted.
