At last night’s LH Wildcat football game, I was proud of our team’s victory over Berkner. But I was even more proud of our crowd’s rousing reception for the Berkner band’s halftime performance. We genuinely enjoyed both their marching band and their drill team, and we showed them with lavish applause.

I have a theory as to why our crowd got so into their show — we are so enjoying our own halftime lately. This year’s band has a particularly crowd-pleasing theme — Baseball as America’s Pastime. The music is spectacular and the showmanship knocks your socks off. I especially like the addition of the jazz band upfront and the flag corps’ use of Louisville Sluggers instead of rifles to twirl. The intro by "The Voice of the Texas Rangers" puts you in the mood, the detailed backdrops set the stage, and the girls wearing baseball pinstripe uniforms and caps are just darling. I’ll bet the concessionaires are hurting, because no one is leaving their seats for halftime in LH this year.
