Electrifying speeches at the podium in front of cheering throngs, colorful campaign banners, winding lines outside voting booths — and all of this takes place before sixth-period gym class.
During an election, the halls of our neighborhood schools can look a lot like the campaign trail — only these candidates are promising to deliver better tater-tots in the lunchroom, rather than bigger tax cuts. Nonetheless, these are the issues that matter to student voters, and just like any democracy, students vote for the man or woman they feel is best for the job.
In light of the national race for the White House, we thought it might be interesting to take a peek inside our neighborhood schools and see how democracy is carried out right here.
