Don’t miss our valedictorian Shay O’Brien, captain of the LHHS golf team, on this Sunday’s Sports Special with Dale Hansen. Dale will name her "Scholar Athlete of the Week" and interview her briefly at the end of the ten o’clock news broadcast on WFAA channel 8. Shay worked this year as service coordinator for the National Honor Society (a big job, since all NHS members are expected to provide significant community service each year). She was also president of Aid for Refugees, an organization at LHHS which is sparking student interest in the plight of refugees all over the globe and causing our own privileged children to appreciate their many opportunities.
Shay was nominated for Scholar Athlete of the Week by LHHS Varsity Women’s Golf Coach Jim Kratz, a longtime LH teacher and resident. "I’m so proud of Shay," he told me. "She deserves to be recognized." And Mr. Kratz deserves to be recognized for advocating for Shay to receive this honor.
