Last night, two British referees arrived at our home to stay with our family while they call games for a major international soccer tournament – Dallas Cup. They will be here two weeks training with the referee crew, working at the matches, and touring Dallas sites (this afternoon they’ll visit Dealey Plaza).

They are great guys, and we are excited to host them. One is 20 and resembles Paul McCartney. He’s a journalist for a newspaper back home. The other is 19 but looks much younger – a blend of Prince Harry and Howdy Doody. Last night, when they arrived, we sat watching the evening news. They were quite interested in the presidential race, especially Clinton vs. Obama. They found it fascinating, saying "back home we don’t have as much voice in the process – the party chooses the candidates."

I asked them if they’d seen the movie "The Queen," with Helen Mirren. They said they had, but one admitted he hadn’t liked it much. "I’m a bit of a royalist," he said. I told them America likes Tony Blair. They said, "yes, I’ll bet you do."

One has been to Florida with his family, and the other visited Las Vegas ("quite an expensive weekend, that one"), but this is their first time to Texas. Please come and welcome them if you see us around town.
