The former Sumo Sushi on upper Greenville was an unusual place, offering one of Dallas’ only all-you-can-eat sushi buffets. Its owners closed the restaurant last year, only to open another unusual spot virtually across the street.

Sumo Steak and Sushi recently opened in the old Royal Tokyo building, which had been vacant for years following a fire. The new restaurant offers hibachi steaks and sushi – nothing unusual there. But the highlight of the large, rectangular sushi bar is revolving sushi, a unique offering of raw fish and rolls moving slowly past diners for their picking pleasure.

Sushi lovers can place individual orders as they’re used to doing, or sit back and wait until something tempting chugs their way. Perhaps the only downside of the new spot is the former location’s all-you-can-eat buffet is no longer. But don’t let that keep you away – the new revolving-sushi concept is a great idea for those reluctant to venture past spicy tuna rolls, because they can see what they’re getting before they get it.

Speaking of things seen, the restaurant’s exterior gardens are lovely, with multiple ponds and waterfalls offering diners nice views with their meals. And the interior is all new, with a light, fresh décor.
