If you live in our neighborhood, chances are good that at one time or another, you’ve been to Tigerbull’s. You probably had a burger and fries, or maybe got really wild with a Dr Pepper float.

But if you haven’t been by Tigerbull’s lately, there are surprises in store for your next visit, thanks to new owners Steve and Elsa Mihalakou, who took over in November.

If you haven’t already guessed by their last name, the Mihalakous are Greek, and they’ve introduced some of their homeland’s favorite dishes to the old burger-and-fries standbys, including a gyros platter and gyros sandwich, shown here.

There are other, non-Greek additions to the menu as well: a Philly cheesesteak sandwich, patty melt, smothered chop steak, catfish and more. And check out the everyday lunch specials, with offerings such as grilled pork chop and baked chicken served with veggies and oven-roasted potatoes.

Want to try out the new menu? A lunch buffet is served Sundays — seven or eight items are offered — from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., manager Nick Vakidas says.

But if you still hanker for a healthy serving of ground beef served patty-style with all the fixings and Tigerbull’s legendary fries, don’t worry: They still serve that, too.

And though the ownership is new, Vakidas says the restaurant is still more than willing to stay open after a school game night. Though official closing time is 9 p.m., he says, Lake Highlands residents are encouraged to call ahead of time and ask the restaurant to stay open for groups.
