Sali’s Italian Restaurant is hardly a secret in town. Good food and equally good prices have made it a neighborhood favorite for years. And given its name, it’s no surprise what you’ll find there: a nice variety of pastas, pizzas and other Italian food standards.
What is surprising, though, is that this well-known place is full of secrets. First of all, many might not realize that one of the best dishes offered is the Sali’s salad, a version of the chef salad, shown here. This time of year, it’s a much better match with the weather outside than most Italian meals. But if you want to know what’s in the dressing on top, you’ll learn what’s most secret about Sali’s: the ingredients in most of the restaurant’s dressings and sauces.
According to Sali’s owner, Lisa Burger, much of the restaurant’s recipes are patented, including the “centuries old” recipe for the dressing on the Sali’s Salad. And that explains why we have none to offer this month. We kept asking: they stopped talking. The most information we could get on the dressing is this hint: It’s a tomato-based creamy Italian. Guess they figure anyone really determined to learn more will keep coming back to taste it.
