Part of the tradition of the new year is starting it off right, and the Advocate has a few big plans for 1999 I’d like to share with you today.

For starters, we’ll be launching a quarterly publication – Park Cities Home & Heritage – beginning in March as we expand our growing readership base across Central Expressway.

Park Cities Home & Heritage will be mailed to more than 10,000 Park Cities residents. (There are only about 12,500 households in Highland Park and University Park, so we’ll be reaching just about every household in the Park Cities, just as we do here.)

In fact, our new publication will boost our reach to more than 180,000 readers, all concentrated in some of Dallas’ most stable, prosperous neighborhoods.

And with 180,000 readers whose average household incomes exceed $111,000 annually (more than $200,000 in the Park Cities alone), Advocate publications will have the most affluent and most broad-based readership of any Dallas publication.

Kind of surprising, isn’t it?

NOMINATIONS NEEDED

In April, the Advocate will be celebrating the eighth anniversary of our first publication by presenting the annual Advocate Award to a neighbor who has gone out of his or her way to make a positive difference here in our neighborhood.

Each year since we began publishing, we’ve asked you to send us nominations for people you know or have come across who work tirelessly to improve our neighborhood.

We take a look at the nominations, select someone whose story needs to be told and feature that person or persons in our cover story for April.

For this award, we’re not looking for people who keep one eye on their task and the other on possible publicity for themselves; instead, we’re trying to shine a spotlight on someone who is more comfortable “doing” rather than just “talking.”

You’ll find a nomination form elsewhere in this month’s Advocate; please fill it out and send it to us with your nomination by January 31.

STAFFING CHANGES

As the new year begins, you’ll find a new person sitting in our editor’s chair.

Longtime neighborhood resident Anne McDonald Davis has joined us to oversee publication of our magazines, and we expect her to be visible throughout our neighborhood at meetings and events big and small.

Please give her a call at 214-823-5885, ext. 210, and tell her what you would like to read about in the Advocate.
