The Dallas Arboretum will present “A World of Flowers,” the 14th annual event in the Dallas Blooms series, March 7-April 12.
The five-week event will highlight a diverse array of flowering plants, including tulips and daffodils from Holland, azaleas from China and cherry trees from Japan.
“We are going to be able to display some of the standards from places like Mexico, Africa, Turkey and the Near East,” says Arboretum spokesperson Karen Cage. These exotic displays will decorate the historic DeGolyer house, which will be open to the public for tours.
Among the many one-time events planned for the spring festival is a concert by children’s entertainer Eddie Coker on Good Friday, April 10. The Arboretum also will sponsor an Easter parade April 11, which is a new addition to the annual festivities.
Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 and Arboretum members are admitted free of charge. Parking is $3, with free off-site parking on the weekends. For more information, call 214-327-4901,
On Sunday, March 1, from 3-4:30 p.m., members of the Arboretum’s volunteer support group, the Turf Club, are holding a family get-together and information meeting for prospective members, says neighborhood resident Cindy Timms, Turf Club president.
During the meeting, various children’s activities will be provided by the Arboretum while adults meet to discuss the Turf Club, the Arboretum’s plans for a children’s garden, and the club’s upcoming events, including an Easter Egg Hunt for members scheduled April 11, a Summer Family Ice Cream Social and a Murder Mystery Party at the DeGolyer House.
