More than 120 craftsmen will be displaying their wares – including pottery, custom furniture and silver sterling jewelry – during the Market in the Meadow Holiday Gift Sale Oct. 18-19 at Forest Meadow Junior High.

This 14th annual sale, sponsored by the Forest Meadow PTA, is the school’s main fund-raiser. Past proceeds from booth fees and food sales have gone toward science and computer equipment, graphic arts and building improvements.

An estimated 4,000 early-bird shoppers step into this man-made winter wonderland each year, says Terri Hawkins, gift sale co-director.

Students pitch in by unloading merchandise, setting up booths, working concession stands and helping festoon the school grounds with festive touches. And groups such as the band, choir, dance clubs and cheerleaders add music and spirit to the proceedings.

“The kids just do a lot of work, and we hear great things about them,” Hawkins says. “School gets out at 3 p.m., and at 6 p.m. the booths move in.

“The school just looks like a wonderland. It’s really fun to see how it changes.”

The Market in the Meadow Holiday Gift Sale will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 18 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 19 at the school, located at Whitehurst and Abrams. There is no admission charge.
