By the time you read this our $1.36 billion budget will have been presented and we will be in the middle of public meetings for your input. Included are increases to allow four more hours weekly at each library branch and a 10 percent increase in book purchases. Street maintenance funding will increase to $25 million. Funding for streets has doubled over the last four years. I know you will all agree this is much needed!

As many may have read, Love Field and the Wright Amendment are under scrutiny again. This time, Congress will decide what it believes can be flown out of Love Field. The issue of what and how far you can fly out of Love Field will be settled in conference committee when Congress returns from its break in September.

Soon after putting the budget to bed the City Council will begin discussion of a bond proposal. With an improving economy locally we should continue to improve on deferred maintenance from the late 1980s and early 1990s. I will keep you informed as this process moves forward.
