There’s an ugly rumor circulating that the City will not include dredging White Rock Lake on the next bond program. That is absolutely not true.
But we must not sit back and let others make decisions about the Lake for us. A series of public meetings are being held throughout the City, and ideas from them will be considered when the final list for the coming bond election is prepared.
If the future of White Rock Lake is important to you, please attend one or more of these public meetings and tell us what you think.
The most convenient meeting will be at Lake Highlands High School Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. Glenn Box and I will host it, and City staff will explain how citizens can participate in the decision-making process.

Tis the Season to visit City facilities and enjoy a host of activities.
Willie B. Johnson Recreation Center will hold its annual Christmas Tree lighting party Dec. 8 at 6 p.m. A long-standing tradition in the Hamilton Park community, this festive occasion will kick-off a community-wide Christmas celebration. I’ve heard that Santa’s sleigh will be disguised as a Dallas police mobile storefront vehicle.
H.O.P.E. (Holiday of People Everywhere) and our public libraries will bring the customs of other countries into our neighborhoods. Holiday trees decorated with symbols of foreign countries will be in each branch library.
The Audelia Branch Library tree will salute Bangladesh, and the Forest Green Library tree will be decorated with ornaments depicting customs of Columbia.
Both libraries will also offer stories, songs and other exhibits celebrating this holiday season.
If the country life appeals to you, visit Samuel Farm Dec. 9-10 and Dec. 16-17. Admission is $1 per person. While there, visit Santa’s Workshop. The kids will love it.
If you’ve never seen Old City Park at Christmas, make plans now. Victorian decorations and strolling carolers welcome you to the traditional candlelight tours Dec. 8-11. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and $3 for children.
The holiday decorations at the DeGolyer House, located at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, are absolutely incredible. The festive table arrangements offer ideas to the amateur decorator, and the Christmas tree is truly magnificent.
The house is open Dec. 5-31. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children. Park hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For information, call 327-8263.
No Yule season would be complete without a production of “A Christmas Carol.” For the 11th year, Dallas Theater Center will present the Charles Dickens classic at the Arts District Theater. It can be enjoyed Dec. 3-24. Call 526-8857 for information.
Let’s Not Forget Our Neighbors
As we contemplate our many blessings during this season, let’s remember those who have great needs. Whether we help with “Santa Cops” or Angel Trees, feeding the homeless or clothing the poor, each of us should take this opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others less fortunate.
