After a strong start in non-district games, the Lake Highlands volleyball team slumped in the first half of district play. The team finished second in the Denison Tournament and third in the Garland Tournament, but won only one of their first eight district games.

Assistant Coach Deanna Harris says one of the reasons for the slump was inexperience. There is not a senior on the team, and its rosters is filled with three sophomores and nine juniors.

“We are really just building,” Harris said. “We have a lot of talent, good athletes and wonderful girls. We are just young. We should be really tough next year.”

A trio of hitters are doing well: sophomore Erin Aldrich and juniors Tamara Shulman and Mandy Pinkerton. She also said that Laura McClendon, a junior setter, was demonstrating important leadership skills.
