A mobile cancer screening unit will be at Ebby Halliday, Realtors, 9730 Audelia, on Nov. 1 as part of the Greater Dallas Association of Realtor’s seventh annual Cancer Screening Drive

Cancer screening, heart risk assessment, blood pressure screening and mammograms are available during the drive.
The $35 cancer screening includes a personalized history and risk assessment, screening of all skin, the lymph nodes, thyroid and abdomen, a manual breast examination colorectal examination and G.U. Screening. Men are screened for prostate and testicular cancer.
Women can pay an additional $30 for a pap smear, and men can receive a PSA test for $40. Participants are taught self-examination methods.
Cholesterol and blood sugar levels can be tested with the $10 finger stick method. The $15 venipuncture test provides HDL/LDL cholesterol levels in addition to triglycerides.
Mammograms are available for women who are 35 or older for $65.
Holiday Festival Set for High School
The holiday season will be celebrated through dance, storytelling, music and drama from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 11 at Lake Highlands High School.
Performances include storyteller Jan Alexander, the play The Fish and The Tortoise, piano music by Gayla Rickard and Daniel DeCordoba and his fiesta Flamenco Troupe.
Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the door or at the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center. The center’s advisory council is sponsoring the event.
Swiss Avenue Home Tour Returns in December
The Swiss Avenue Historic Holiday Home Tour will be Dec. 3 through Dec. 5.
Ten turn-of-the-century homes, in the historic East Dallas neighborhood, will be on display. Also scheduled are an auction and an antigue jewelry sale.
Horse and carriage rides will be available, and children can have their pictures taken with Santa Claus on Dec. 4. Choirs, band and the Dallas Puppet Theatre will perform throughout the weekend.
Proceeds benefit the Swiss Avenue Historic District. The district is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a Dallas landmark and a Texas Historical Site. Hours are 6-10 p.m. Friday, noon-9 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. For information, call 220-XMAS (9627).
Conference on Violence Scheduled for Nov. 13
“Violence in Dallas,” a conference and resource fair will be 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Nov. 13 at First United Methodist Church, 1928 Ross Ave.
The conference will deal with youth and family violence and violence and the media. Registration is $10 and a box lunch is provided.
Service agencies dealing with youth violence, drug abuse, family violence, family counseling, rape and sexual assault counseling, child abuse treatment and prevention, parenting skill, police programs, and peace groups will have booths at the resource fair.

Volunteer Center Needs Help Spreading Cheer
Volunteers are needed Dec. 1 through Dec. 3 to put together toy bags, and Dec. 6 to host cookie parties in 11 DISD schools.
The program is part of a project organized by the Volunteer Center in an attempt to bring holiday joy to more than 5,000 children. Each child will receive a bag of small toys, crayons and a coloring book of the Saint Nicholas legend.
Children in the program can be adopted with a $15 contribution, which will pay for a toy bag. For information, call 826-6767, ext. 240.

HONORARY MEMBER: Ray McKelvy, minister of outreach and music at North Highlands Bible Church, was voted an honorary member of the Lake Highlands Exchange Club. McKelvy has helped the club with several projects, including the club’s Angel Tree holiday gift program and selecting 16 young men who the club sponsored to attend a special summer camp.
CHARITY BALL: The Junior League of Richardson recently announced that their annual charity ball will be held in the crystall ballroom of the Grand Kempinski Hotel on April 16, 1994. PASTOR APPOINTED: Reverend Earl H. Eliason, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church for 13 ½ years, has been appointed to serve as assistant to the bishop of the Northern Texas-Northern Louisiana synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He will direct and train pastors in leadership and mission, and administer the call process for pastors and congregations. Eliason will continue to live in Lake Highlands.
