Local soccer club under investigation

Some soccer parents are accusing the president of the successful and local Solar Soccer Club of stealing.

According to this report from Brett Shipp at WFAA, parents say David Ringer, an attorney who is well known in Lake Highlands, took as much as $800,000 from them over five years.

Ringer, a longtime Dallas attorney who lives and offices in LH, began volunteering with the club when his son joined a Solar team, and he stayed on long after his children graduated.

The club has about 300 members, many from Lake Highlands. Because an investigation is ongoing, Ringer can’t comment on the accusations right now. He did send a written statement to WFAA calling the accusations “defamatory, unfounded and unwarranted” and says they are in dispute.

LHHS golf: Lady Cats nab district championship

GolfDistrictChamps blog 300x208 LHHS golf: Lady Cats nab district championship

Members of the Lady Wildcat golf team celebrate winning the district tournament. Holding the trophy is Jessica Ritter, and behind her is Coach Jim Kratz.

After his Lady Wildcat golf team won the district tournament last week at Richardson’s Sherrill Park, coach Jim Kratz is glowing with pride for his girls.

“These ladies really stepped up and showed a great desire,” he told me. “We had lost to Richardson by 30+ strokes the week before at the Pearce tournament, but Annie Ritter and Sydney Carrington shot their best golf of the season at district. Sarah Weinberger has played steady all season and she really did a super job during this tournament, and freshman Madison Reagan really came through in the clutch.”

“The district champion is Jessica Ritter,” Kratz gushed about the Lake Highlands High senior headed to Rhodes College on a golf scholarship. “I can’t say enough about this young lady. She has been the backbone of this team for the last 3 years. She has qualified for regionals as a sophomore and junior. This year she gets to take a whole team with her. She put the team on her back and brought home the championship.”

“Don’t get me wrong, this was a team accomplishment,” Kratz added, “but as the captain she really got the team to come through.”

Kratz smiled as he recalled the way the girls cheered each other on. “Their excitement became contagious. They would turn in their score card and then come back to watch their teammates finish. On the final day when they realized they had won, there was a group hug in the snack bar.”

Kratz doesn’t hide his pride at the team’s achievements. “To the best of my knowledge this is the first time a Lake Highlands girls’ golf team has qualified for the regional tournament, so this has been a very special year for me and my girls. They’ve worked hard all year.”

Next week, the team travels to Waco for the regional tournament at Cottonwood Creek. They’ll play a practice round Tuesday, April 19, then compete Wednesday and Thursday. Go Cats!

LHHS softball squeaks out with perfect weekend

It was close, but Lake Highlands High softball remains unbeaten, 19-0, after back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Wildcats cruised on Friday, Senior Night, against last place Sunset High 11-1 to move to 18-0 on the season. Erin Brennan, Cynthia Ibarra and Andrea Beard each posted a double on the night as Lake Highlands spread 11 runs over eight hits.

On Saturday, LHHS and Berkner High met at Berkner, and the third place Lady Rams were looking to move into a tie with Skyline  with a win. However, LHHS held its ground in its closest game of the season, and pulled out a 2-0 win to keep the perfect streak alive.

The Lady Wildcats will head to second place Skyline this Friday.

Wildcats burn up the track tonight in Plano Relays

The Lake Highlands High track team heads to Tom Kimbrough Stadium in Plano tonight at 5:30 p.m. to burn up the track at the Plano Relays.

With the District 9-5A Championships coming April 12-13 at Jesuit, this is the team’s final prep for the district meet.

A few names to keep an eye on for the boys side, Meron Fessahaie, you’ve seen his name on this blog before. Fessahaie burned up the cross country tracks in the fall and is favored to win the 800 and the mile run in district. At the Sheaner Relays, Fessahaie ran a 4:19 mile. Yeah, you can’t do that, check this kid out.

Victor Iwuagwu cleared 14-feet on the pole vault at the Samuel Invitationals last weekend, and has a shot at winning the district tile. Iwuagwu cleared 14-feet-6 inches in the indoor season at the Club Atlus Season’s Greeter.

LHHS softball gives up nothing against W.T. White High

W.T. White did put three hits on the board, but Lake Highlands High pitcher Erin Brennan and the Lady Wildcats defense didn’t allow a run to score for the second straight game as LHHS won 18-0.

The Lady Wildcats have allowed five runs in eight District 9-5A games this season, and Brennan has now tossed seven shutouts.

Destiny Rojas, Bridget O’Brien, Angela Beard and Brenna all posted doubles to pace the Lady Wildcats to 13 hits on the game.

LHHS has essentially locked up the top spot in 9-5A, but two wins this weekend against Sunset High and Berkner High would seal the deal for sure.

Lake Highlands will play Sunset at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at home and then heads to second place Berkner at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday for a game that could secure the No. 1. seed.

Wildcats baseball moves into two-way tie for second

Lake Highlands High got the best of Richardson High Tuesday night at home, and pitcher Dylan Porter got the win as the Wildcats rolled the Eagles 6-1.

University of Texas commit Taylor Stell and teammate David Bloodworth each had a double in the win as the Wildcats racked up 10 hits. The only run given up by Lake Highlands was a solo-shot by Richardson’s Joey Schattle.

The Wildcats are now tied with W.T. White who also picked up a win at home against Skyline Tuesday.

Lake Highlands and W.T. White will match wits next week, but could the Longhorns have two District 9-5A games between now and then, and the Wildcats are off for a week.

While the match-up will come into play at the end of the season, nothing will be decisive directly after that game.

Still, I would think LHHS would like to pick up a win on the road and even things out considering they have already dropped one game to W.T. White at home earlier this season.

Lady Wildcats softball looks to remain unbeaten, baseball hosts Richardson

On the road tonight, the Lake Highlands High Lady Wildcats softball team looks to move to 17-0 on the season Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at W.T. White.

The Lady Wildcats are in the second game of the back-swing of the of the schedule, having already defeated W.T. White 20-0 earlier this season in one of Erin Brennan’s six shutouts.

On the home-front, the Wildcats baseball team looks to secure at least partial ownership of the second seed in District 9-5A with a win against Richardson at 7 p.m. tonight.

LHHS is tied with Richardson and W.T. White for second place at 4-2. The Wildcats get consecutive chances to lock up the second spot with a win tonight, and a win next week against the Longhorns.

Overall, the bats will be lighting up on what should be a beautiful Texas night at the diamonds. Enjoy.
